什人生用 "喊"的 ?

One day, a professor asked his students
'Why do we SHOUT instead of speak when we are ANGRY?'

All the students thought for a while. One answered

'Because we lost our cool. That's why we SHOUT.'

Asked the professor again, 'But the person is just right next to you,
why can't we talk softly but have to SHOUT?'

Everyone gave their opinions but none was accepted by the professor.

Lastly explained by the professor 'When we are ANGRY,
our hearts drift apart. To mask the DISTANCE we felt,
we instinctively SHOUT instead of speak so the other party can hear us.'

'But
 as we SHOUT, we get ANGRIER. And we felt we drift apart further.
So we SHOUT even louder...'

'It is the opposite when we are in love. Not only we do not shout,
we whisper into each other ears. Why?'

'This is because our hearts are very close, almost never apart.
As our love deepen, we reach a state of communication

where there is no need fo! r words.'

'We understand each other well enough just by exchanging look,'
concluded the professor.

'Therefore, when we are arguing,
DO NOT speak words that will make our hearts drift apart.
WAIT a few days. When you feel your hearts are no longer far apart,
pick up the conversation and continue from there.

Good morning, everyone.
In light of the coming festive seasons, I thot I'd share some info with
you.
Pls refer to the attached with regards to counterfeit notes.
Be very careful when receiving $50 notes.
Otherwise, have a great weekend!

Dear members of the Safety and Security Watch Group,
CRIME ALERT: USE OF COUNTERFEIT MONEY AS MODE OF PAYMENT
(FOR YOUR INFORMATION)
Police has recently received reports of unknown person using counterfeit
money
as mode of payment. To date more than 30 cases were reported and as we
approach
the period of festive sales, we would like to reiterate the importance
for being vigilant.
Modus Operandi
Please take note that the culprit will normally use a fake currency note
of S$50/-
note (commonly bearing the serial number: 2EY322725) at pubs,
restaurants, petrol
kiosks, convenient stores and 4D outlets for purchases.
The scam can also take in other forms ie culprit may also seek
assistance in
changing loose notes using counterfeit money, on the pretext of urgent
need.
Crime Prevention Measures
Public and sole proprietors should remain alert and pay extra attention
when
customers pay for purchases using higher denominations of cash, e.g.
S$50/-. Below
are a few measures which can assist public to identify counterfeit notes
and prevent you
from falling victim to a similar ruse.
What to look out for?
1. Counterfeit Notes using serial number: 2EY322725;
2. Poor quality paper that has a waxy surface without the following
intaglio:
a. No raised printing;
b. No shimmering effect on the kinegrams;
c. No Security Thread; and
3. Although the counterfeit note simulated the outline of the watermark,
but it does
not have three-dimensional portrait of the late President Yusof Bin
Ishak when
examined under light.
What retailers and shop owners can do to prevent falling victim?
1. While such cases are not new, cashiers should be constantly reminded
to be
vigilant to prevent from falling victim;
2. During peak hours, cashier should decline requests for change of
larger notes
politely by citing the long queue as a reason;
3. If possible, additional staff should be deployed, especially during
peak operating
hours;
4. CCTVs should be strategically positioned to cover the cashier counter
and allow
the image of customers to be captured;
What you can do when you receive such notes?
1. When presented with the counterfeit note, do not return the suspected
note to the
suspect;
2. Delay and keep the suspect at sight and if possible contact the
police
immediately;
3. Take note of the description of the culprit, eg gender, age, height,
built, attire,
scars/tattoos, accent of language or any distinct features;
4. Note the suspect(s)' mode of escape and take down the vehicle
registration
number if he/they had escaped in a vehicle;
5. Minimize the handling of the note and carefully place it in a
envelope/polymer
bag and hand it to the Police when they arrive.
We seek your assistance to disseminate the crime alert to all your

that they can take the necessary precaution to protect themselves
against such crime.
If you have any information relating to the above cases, please do not

Free stay at Banyan Tree's Thai resorts

Free stay at Banyan Tree's Thai resorts

By NISHA RAMCHANDANI

TO help lure tourists back to Thailand, resort operator Banyan Tree Holdings is giving away 1,000 complimentary room nights at Banyan Tree Bangkok and Banyan Tree Phuket.

Under the promotion, which is part of a collaborative effort with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, guests will get one free night's stay with a minimum of one paid night's stay for online bookings made from Jan 8-31.

Recent political clashes between the Thai government and People's Alliance for Democracy, which led to a week-long closure of Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport and left more than 300,000 tourists stranded, have sparked a drop in arrivals.

The global economic downturn is also putting a damper on travel.

This could have significant impact on Banyan Tree, as its businesses in Thailand contribute about 70 per cent of group revenue. The group has another Thai resort, Banyan Tree Koh Samui, scheduled to open late this year.

It warned in November last year that it expected fourth quarter 2008 results to be down from the year before.

Its outlook for 2009 is also more cautious, amid the global downturn and continuing political uncertainty in Thailand.

Still, Banyan Tree Bangkok's director of sales and marketing Sunee U-Thaikittisup reckons Thailand will remain an attractive tourist destination, saying, 'We are confident that tourists will return. Thailand has much to offer and Banyan Tree would like to give an additional incentive to draw new and old guests back to Phuket and Bangkok.'

The complimentary rooms are valid for stays from Feb 1 to April 30, 2009.

Santichai Euachongprasit, deputy governor for international marketing with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said: 'Our experience with other crises has shown us how to cope, by helping one another. Everyone in the tourism industry is working hard to get Thailand smiling again.

'We welcome Banyan Tree's efforts to contribute to the growth of Thailand's tourism industry and build traveller confidence in these challenging times.'

Gallup's Q12

Gallup came up with the Q12, a 12-question survey that identifies strong feelings of employee engagement. Results from the survey show a strong correlation between high scores and superior job performance. Here are those 12 questions:
  • Do you know what is expected of you at work?

  • Do you have the materials and equipment you need to do your work right?

  • At work, do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day?

  • In the last seven days, have you received recognition or praise for doing good work?

  • Does your supervisor, or someone at work, seem to care about you as a person?

  • Is there someone at work who encourages your development?

  • At work, do your opinions seem to count?

  • Does the mission/purpose of your company make you feel your job is important?

  • Are your associates (fellow employees) committed to doing quality work?

  • Do you have a best friend at work?

  • In the last six months, has someone at work talked to you about your progress?

  • In the last year, have you had opportunities at work to learn and grow?

At least 218 here have off-the-shelf degrees

Aug 29, 2008
At least 218 here have off-the-shelf degrees
By Sandra Davie
AT LEAST 218 people, mostly Singaporeans, are proudly flaunting degrees, MBAs and doctorates from a dozen degree mills, including Preston University, Wisconsin International University, Paramount University of Technology, Kennedy-Western University and Rochville University.
This was uncovered by Straits Times checks on the Internet and trade publications, to find out how widespread the use of bogus qualifications is here.

Most of them are males and predominantly businessmen, professional trainers, private school lecturers and financial consultants.

The majority have basic diplomas and in some cases, degrees from bona fide universities, but quote masters or PhDs from bogus institutions to bolster their credentials.

A few such as Expressions International founder Theresa Chew, who has a honorary doctorate from Kennedy-Western University, and Mr George Quek, who has an honorary business doctorate from the Wisconsin International University, add the words Honoris Causa (Latin for a token of respect or honour) on their namecards, to indicate that it is an honorary degree.

But worryingly, an increasingly long list of private school lecturers and financial consultants openly cite their bought doctorates and masters' degrees, in their curriculum vitae and client pitches.

A typical example is Be-Mad, a company at Scotts Road, that trains human resource professionals. Its chief executive officer 'Dr' David Ong Kah Seng and two of his associates, 'Dr' Ng Sin Keh and Mr Yeo Thiang Swee, have degrees from Rochville University, Preston University and Atlantic International University, which are all commonly referred to as diploma mills in the United States.

On its website, Be-Mad consultancy boasts that its long list of clients includes ministries, banks and educational institutions.

Yet another two successful businessmen with questionable qualifications are options trading expert 'Dr' Clemen Chiang, a Nanyang Technological University graduate, who runs courses through Freely Business School at North Bridge Road and 'Dr' T. Chandroo who runs a chain of 60 Montessori kindergartens here and abroad. Both of them have doctorates from Preston University, classified as a degree mill in the US.

Why do these successful businessmen who have demonstrated expertise in an area resort to using degrees from unaccredited institutions?

After all, resume detectives say such bogus degrees are a 'ticking time bomb', which may burnish your CV for now, but sooner or later blow up in your face.

The Straits Times put the question to 'Drs' Ong, Chiang and Chandroo.

Mr Ong claimed that his alma mater Rochville University was a reputed one and claimed to have worked on a thesis for 18 months on behavioural sciences.

Mr Chandroo's secretary said he was 'too busy' to answer e-mails or calls from The Straits Times over the past month.

Mr Chiang, known to be an astute entrepreneur who set up Freely Business School and is widely quoted in the local press on options trading, admits that he was 'not so smart' when he signed up for an online doctorate programme from Preston University a few years ago.

The NTU engineering graduate said he wanted to complete a PhD in extra quick time and found out about Preston University through the Internet. And because it was listed as a partner of a private school here licensed by the Education Ministry, he thought it was an accredited institution.

He suggested a thesis topic on options trading which was accepted by the university faculty in Wyoming, US. He researched the topic and submitted his thesis within 16 months and was granted a PhD. It cost him all of S$18,000 in fees.

It was only later that he realised that Preston was not accredited in the US.

Mr Chiang sheepishly admits that he continues to use his doctorate as it helps to pave the way in business. Besides, he reasons: 'I did write a thesis for it.'

But he added: 'But I am thinking of dropping my doctorate title altogether until I complete the current PhD I am working on with the University of South Australia.'
